About the National Conference
The Conference gathering took a solution-oriented approach to reducing
greenhouse gas emissions in the United States, as described in the
Post-Conference Press Release. Conference working groups continue to
develop actionable recommendations for market incentives and regulatory
changes to reduce emissions from two leading source sectors: Buildings
& Appliances, and Power Generation. The Conference participants will
also examinethe mitigation roles of land use/forestry management and
carbon finance. While the conference will emphasize solutions to the
U.S. greenhouse gas problem, conference sponsors and organizers do
not expect full agreement to emerge from the work. Discordant views
will be recorded as appropriate.
The action-based goals of the conference include developing specific policy options for bringing negative or zero cost abatement solutions to ground in the United States using New York State as a pilot project jurisdiction. Conference organizers are currently working with New York State Government to develop a starter list of ideas for pilot project consideration.
Conference participants will draw on what is regarded as the most deeply researched substantive fact base related to American climate mitigation options and costs: Reducing U.S. Greenhouse Gas Emissions: How Much at What Cost? The report was produced by McKinsey & Company, which is serving as Knowledge Partner to the Conference.
The Conference`s main gathering took place June 25th & 26th at The Wild Center, a new museum dedicated to the Adirondacks and located in Tupper Lake, New York.
